Nimini EPL (54 km2)
The Nimini property displays structures similar to those hosting known diamondiferous kimberlites which have been exploited in the Koidu area. It also targets an area of intersection between the dominant Kono fracture trend, which hosts the dykes, and the major N-S trending zone of shearing on the eastern margin of the Nimini Hills schist belt. The shear zone appears to have been reactivated during the Cretaceous, and has been proven to contain diamondiferous source rocks at a number of points along its length.
A number of the mined channels in the Yengema area drain from the Nimini Hills, rather than the Koidu kimberlites, demonstrating the continuation of the source rocks in the Nimini area.
The Sewa River flows across the north of the licence then south along the western flank of the Nimini Hills.
At Jopowahun, Njagbema and Konda, on the extrapolation of the Koidu kimberlites across the Nimini EPL to the west of the Hills, clusters of kimberlitic indicator minerals are recorded. The alluvial workings immediately south of Konda have been yielding some of the highest grades and quality of diamonds in the country.
It is considered that a local kimberlite source must be present in this area. Clear evidence points to the continuation of diamondiferous kimberlites across the Nimini Hills, particularly across the northern part of the Golden Leo licence area, where a strong indication exists that the rich Koidu dykes extend across the greenstone belt. No previous exploration has been conducted for diamonds on the licence.
